A space probe photographs nine dragon corpses pulling a bronze coffin through deep space. Soon after, Ye Fan and his former classmates are carried off Earth by that same coffin and stranded on an ancient star where cultivation rules all. Starting from nothing among hostile sects and holy lands, Ye Fan follows clues left by long-dead emperors as he walks a path toward the summit of a merciless world.

Jiangsu-based studio Original Force, also known for A Mortal's Journey to Immortality, animates Chen Dong's 2010 Qidian novel for Tencent Video, with Penguin Pictures and Chengdu Xingyue Chenshi among the producers and Zhao Xia as the original director. The series premiered on May 3, 2023 as a year-round weekly annual show updated on Wednesdays. Its first year, subtitled Origins (Yuanqi), ran 53 episodes; a 53-episode second year followed from April 2024 and a 50-episode third year from April 2025, the latter directed by Luo Le. A fourth annual season began on April 8, 2026, taking the run to episode 169 by early July 2026. A 90-minute film-length special released on Tencent Video in April 2026 drew over 2 million advance reservations. The story shares an author and continuity links with Perfect World, and English-subtitled episodes stream on WeTV.
