Where to Watch Donghua in English (Legally)

Every major legal way to stream Chinese animation with English subtitles: Crunchyroll, Netflix, WeTV, iQIYI, Bstation, and the official YouTube channels.

Updated 2026-07-02

Donghua distribution is messier than anime distribution: there is no single service that carries most of it. The good news is that nearly everything worth watching now has a legal English-subtitled home, and several of those homes are free. Availability varies by region and changes without notice; each series page on this wiki lists what we last verified.

The platforms in detail

Crunchyroll treats top donghua like seasonal anime: weekly simulcast episodes, proper subtitles, sometimes dubs. Its donghua shelf is small but includes several of the best series.

Netflix licenses selectively and often globally, with dubs. It is the easiest on-ramp for films: several Light Chaser features and the Ne Zha-adjacent New Gods films have appeared there in many regions.

WeTV is Tencent Video's international app, and it is where the year-round nianfan sagas live with official English subs, usually free with ads a week after VIP release. Tencent also uploads full episodes to genre-branded YouTube channels.

Bstation (bilibili.tv) is bilibili's international app, strongest for bilibili-commissioned originals and 2D titles. Regional availability is uneven (best in Southeast Asia) but the catalog matters.

iQIYI International (iq.com) mirrors iQIYI exclusives with multilingual subs on a free tier.

Official YouTube channels are the sleeper option. Tencent Video Animation, Youku Animation, and studio-run channels upload complete runs with English subtitles, monetized with ads. If a 3DCG series is not on WeTV in your region, the official YouTube upload usually is. Stick to verified channels; rips with stolen subs are common.

Practical tips

  • Check the series page first. Every entry on this wiki lists verified international platforms in its "Where to Watch" section.
  • Episode numbering differs. Year-round shows count "annual season" episodes; a platform may label the same episode 52 or S2E26.
  • Subtitle quality varies more than with anime. Official subs on WeTV and YouTube are serviceable; Crunchyroll and Netflix are usually cleaner.
  • Region-hopping is not required. Between free tiers and YouTube, the majority of major donghua is legally watchable in most countries at zero cost.
