The series is a joint production of Wan Wei Mao Donghua and CG specialist Original Force for bilibili, with Wang Yuren as chief director and chief writer. It adapts Wang Yu's 2008-2013 Qidian web novel, one of the defining mortal-cultivator xianxia stories. After several shorter arcs, the show adopted a year-round weekly annual (nianfan) format with continuous episode numbering: the Return to Tiannan arc closed at episode 176 in January 2026, and the 52-episode Battle of Mulan arc (episodes 177-228) began June 13, 2026. Chinese coverage reported it as bilibili's most played donghua of 2025, with about 2.6 billion views. An animated film, Hanhai Mizong, is scheduled for December 2026; the 2025 live-action drama is a separate production. English-subtitled episodes stream on Bstation and bilibili's official YouTube uploads.
