In a near-future world, superpowers run on belief: a quantified trust score determines each hero's strength, and public opinion can create or destroy a champion overnight. When the top-ranked hero X vanishes, an ordinary stand-in named Lin Ling is pushed into wearing the identity. Moving through a rotation of ranked heroes, the series examines the gap between the images the public worships and the people underneath.

To Be Hero X is the third entry in the To Be Hero franchise from director Li Haoling, produced as a bilibili and Aniplex collaboration made at BeDream together with PB Animation, Studio LAN, and Paper Plane Animation Studio, with music contributions from Hiroyuki Sawano and other composers. Its 24 episodes aired from April to September 2025 on bilibili in China and Fuji TV in Japan, while Crunchyroll streamed the series worldwide with same-day English dub premieres. A second season has been confirmed, expanding the project to roughly 48 episodes across two seasons, with new details presented at bilibili's July 2026 events.
