Scissor Seven began as a low budget independent production at Guangzhou's Sharefun Studio, produced with AHA Entertainment; creator He Xiaofeng writes and directs the series and voices Seven. Five seasons totaling 54 episodes aired between 2018 and 2024 across bilibili, Tencent Video, Youku, and iQIYI, with season 5 running from October to November 2024. Netflix has distributed the show worldwide since 2020 with multiple dub tracks, and released season 5 internationally in 2025. A theatrical film announced at the end of season 4 is the franchise's next installment, and the team has said a sixth season would follow the film.
