Orphaned overnight when his village is wiped out, Zhang Xiaofan is taken in by the righteous Qingyun Sect, where he trains as its least gifted disciple. Tencent's Penguin Pictures produces the series with 3D studio Cloud Art (Yuntu Donghua), in which Tencent became the largest shareholder in 2021; Zhang Xiaolong directs. It adapts Xiao Ding's 2003-2007 novel Zhu Xian, one of the books that shaped modern xianxia fiction and also the basis for a live-action film, a TV drama, and an MMO game, all separate works. Season 1 (26 episodes) premiered on Tencent Video on August 2, 2022, followed by 26-episode seasons in March 2024 and June 2025, bringing the aired total to 78 episodes. A 26-episode fourth and final season was announced at Tencent's 2025 animation showcase with a 2026 premiere window.
