Zhou Mingrui, a Chinese office worker, wakes in the body of Klein Moretti in Tingen, a city of the Loen Kingdom in a Victorian-styled world of steam engines and occult forces. Recruited into the Nighthawks, a church agency that polices the supernatural, Klein becomes a Beyonder by drinking a Sequence potion and quietly convenes the mysterious Tarot Club. The series follows his investigations into hidden churches, secret organizations, and the truth behind his own transmigration.

Lord of Mysteries adapts the Qidian web novel by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving (serialized 2018 to 2020), co-produced by Tencent and China Literature with 2D animation by B.CMAY Pictures under chief director Xiong Ke. Season 1, subtitled Clown, ran 13 episodes on Tencent Video from June 28 to September 13, 2025, with Saturday releases simulcast internationally on Crunchyroll, WeTV, and Muse Asia. Three special episodes covering the City of Silver and the hunt for Qilangos began airing June 20, 2026, with the finale on July 4, 2026. Season 2, subtitled Faceless and adapting the novel's second volume, is confirmed for 2027; its first trailer arrived in June 2026, and the producers have outlined a roadmap of seasons, specials, and a film stretching to 2035.
