College student Zhang Chulan hides an inherited power until corpses rise in his family's graveyard and drag him into the world of Outsiders, ability users living behind ordinary identities. Partnered with Feng Baobao, an unaging, deadpan girl who fights with a vegetable knife, he signs on with a temp agency for Outsiders and starts digging into his grandfather's past and the decades-old massacre connected to it.

The donghua has cycled through studios: season 1 (2016) was a China-Japan co-production animated by Emon and Pandanium under director Wang Xin, season 2 (2017-2018) went to Haoliners, season 3 (2020) to Big Firebird, and Qiyuan Yinghua has produced season 4 (2021), season 5 (2022, rated 8.8 on Douban), and season 6. Season 6 premiered January 2, 2026 on Tencent Video as a 26 episode half-year run adapting chapters 314 to 460, pushing the total past 90 episodes. Crunchyroll has streamed the series internationally since the first season's 2016 simulcast.
