Ne Zha is the debut feature of writer-director Jiaozi, made at his Chengdu studio Coco Cartoon under Beijing Enlight's Coloroom label. Released across China on July 26, 2019 after early IMAX screenings, it was the first Chinese-produced animated feature released in IMAX and grossed about 5 billion yuan, a record for an animated film in China; its worldwide total exceeds $740 million including a 2025 re-release. China submitted it for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, and Well Go USA gave it a North American theatrical run from August 29, 2019. It launched Enlight's shared slate of Investiture of the Gods films, continued by Jiang Ziya in 2020, and its 2025 sequel became the highest-grossing animated film ever.
