Three thousand years after the war of the gods, in the dieselpunk port of Donghai where powerful clans ration the water supply, delivery rider Li Yunxiang street-races, fixes motorbikes, and looks out for his neighborhood. When the ruling clan's heir provokes him, a dormant power flares: Yunxiang carries the reborn spirit of Nezha, and the dragon king's family has waited millennia to settle the old score.

New Gods: Nezha Reborn launched Light Chaser Animation's New Gods series, recasting figures from the Investiture of the Gods in a retro-futurist city of smokestacks, neon, and motorcycles. Zhao Ji directed the film, which opened in China for Chinese New Year on February 12, 2021 against crowded holiday competition and earned about 456 million yuan, roughly $70 million. Co-producers included Alibaba Pictures, Bona Film Group, and Bilibili. Netflix picked up global rights outside China and began streaming it on April 12, 2021. Its post-credits material set up New Gods: Yang Jian, released in 2022, and its take on Nezha is separate from Enlight's Ne Zha films despite the shared source legend.
