Zhao Ji's follow-up to New Gods: Nezha Reborn shifted Light Chaser's series from dieselpunk to a xianxia setting of floating mountains, airships, and Dunhuang-styled dance, retelling the linked legends of Erlang Shen and the Lotus Lantern. Released in China on August 19, 2022, it opened at number one, ahead of Minions: The Rise of Gru, and finished with about $82 million. GKIDS acquired North American rights and released the film theatrically on January 20, 2023 in Mandarin and in an English dub, followed by digital and Blu-ray editions. Bilibili co-produced the film with Light Chaser, extending a partnership that runs through the studio's mythology features.
