Guofeng国风
guófēng
"National style": aesthetics that deliberately draw on traditional Chinese art, music, dress, and architecture; a badge of pride in modern donghua.
Guofeng names a design intention: Tang dynasty silhouettes, ink-wash textures, guqin and dizi on the soundtrack, palace eaves and paper lanterns in the background art. It overlaps with the broader guochao ("national wave") consumer trend that made traditional-styled fashion and media commercially cool for a young Chinese audience.
Donghua wears guofeng proudly. Films like Chang An and White Snake build entire sequences around classical painting and poetry, while series like Fog Hill of Five Elements fuse folk-art color palettes with modern action animation. The style is both an artistic identity and a selling point against the look of Japanese anime.
