Sparkly Key Animation Studio (Hangzhou Xuanji Technology) produces the 3DCG franchise for Tencent Penguin Pictures, with studio founder Shen Leping directing the adaptation of Tang Jia San Shao's Qidian novel. The first series premiered on Tencent Video on January 20, 2018, was billed in Chinese trade coverage as the first year-round weekly web donghua, and ended at episode 263 on June 10, 2023 with more than 52 billion cumulative plays, the highest figure reported for any donghua. The sequel Soul Land 2: The Unrivaled Tang Sect, set ten thousand years later and animated in Unreal Engine 5, launched on June 24, 2023 in 52-episode annual runs; a fourth run began in June 2026 and passed episode 159 that month. WeTV, the Tencent Video Animation YouTube channel, and Rakuten Viki offer English-subtitled streams.
